The following is my list of my current five favorite low cost games for the iPod® Touch/iPhone®. I decided to purchase each of these games after trying the free “lite” versions and I am glad I bought the “pro” versions. I have spent countless hours playing these entertaining games.
1. Fuzzle – CandyCane Inc. ($0.99)
In this game your object is to move different colored balls around the board to try to make chains of five balls of the same color, which removes them from the board. You can only move one ball at a time. After each move more balls are added to the screen with the exception being after you’ve created a link of 5 or more of the same the color. You must try to keep from letting the board fill up with balls.
There are two “bonus” balls – the first being the “rainbow ball” which can serve as any color to create a chain and the “bomb ball” which when included in a chain will clear the board of all the balls of that color.
This game although simple is beyond addictive. I find myself playing this whenever I have a free moment. Even when I’m watching TV, I’m still playing this game!
2. Farm Frenzy – Alawar Entertainment, Inc. (currently on sale for $ 0.99)
This is a real fun time management game involving a farm. Each level challenges you to meet task requirements on the farm from collecting eggs, wool, milk; to processing them with production facilities you must purchase to create egg solids, yarn, bolts of fabric, cream, butter, etc. You must keep what you collect in a warehouse and sell the items by sending a truck to town. With money gained from the sale of your goods you can increase the size of your warehouse and truck in order to store and sell more. You can also update your facilities in order to process more, all the while watching to fight off bears who drop down to attack your farm animals and hurl them off your farm. I hate when bears do that.
I enjoy this game and must add that this is probably the closest I will ever come to farming.
Farm Frenzy offers:
- Over 45 levels
- 5 animals to care for
- 9 farm products to sell
- 6 buildings to purchase
- unlimited game time
3. Garden War – Rockifone.com’s (currently on sale for $ 0.99)
In Garden War, annoying pests try to invade your garden and kill your flowers. You have several weapons that you can place around your garden to try to kill off the pests before they do any damage. You earn points/coins and experience for each pest you kill which you can use to upgrade your weapons and purchase more defenses, which include: a water shot, a grume, a stone launcher, a fire blazer, and an electric tower.
There are 12 maps, over 10 different pests, 3 difficulty levels, and a helpful pause feature to organize your weapons and plan your defense.
Is this game addictive? Well, I’ll share this story with you…When I introduced this game to Chaos to Clarity’s Tracey Holinka, I did not get my iPod Touch back until the battery had run out – ‘nuff said.
4. California Gold Rush – Digital Chocolate’s ($0.99)
Good news, the California Gold Rush is not over – it’s far from it and is ready for you to download for hours of fun. You can dig for gold and gems and uncover treasures in this enjoyable game. You play Mandy, a young girl who must blast through rock, avoid mine collapses and kill bats that try attack her – in order to strike gold.
You can make purchases in the general store, from mine supports, explosives, maps, etc. to improve your luck in the mines.
There are up to 30 mines to enjoy and explore. This game is not just fun, it’s a blast!
5. The Treasures of Montezuma – Alawar Entertainment, Inc. ($1.99)
There are 41 levels in this game each of increasing difficulty. You must make chains of 3 or more of artifacts of the same color. Some of these artifacts hold gems and you must try to reach the gem requirement for advancement from each level. There are power totems that are triggered when there are consecutive matches made which act as bonuses from unlocking extra gems on to the board or awarding more time to the countdown clock.
In all there are:
- 41 levels
- 2 difficulty modes
- 4 bonus games (8 bonus levels)
- 6 bonuses
- 6 Power Totems to activate
- 9 trophies to earn
I hope you find these games to be as much fun as I do. However, remember you still have to be a productive member of society, so keep the game playing to a minimum!
Enjoy!

It’s true. I ran Claudia’s battery down playing Garden War. Now when she runs into me she guards her iPod® Touch.
