5 Great iPod touch/iPhone Applications to Increase Productivity

Navigating around the available applications offered through the iTunes store can be overwhelming. There is such a wide variety of application choices to purchase and download onto the iPod touch® or iPhone®. Although I am only beginning my foray into the iPod touch application world, I stumbled upon these 5 apps that I believe would help to increase productivity when you have to step away from the office.  And they won’t bust your budget either!

ZiiBii – There are several applications, which allow you to stay connected to social networking sites.  LinkedIn, Facebook, and MySpace offer their own applications but others companies offer apps that give you access to more than one social networking site.  One such app is Duo, which allows you to update your Twitter and Facebook accounts.  However, ZiiBii offers much more: access to Facebook, Flickr, YouTube, Twitter and a RSS News ticker. With access to so many accounts, this one app cannot only help you save time but also memory usage on you device and it’s free to boot!

Documents 2 - (Free version limited – full version $3.99) This is an all-in-one Mobile Office Suite, which enables the user to “transfer, edit, and view documents on the iPod touch/iPhone via WiFi HD, Google or Email”. There are many outstanding features to stay connected to the office no matter where you are.

Quickvoice – (Free version limited – Full version $ .99) A full feature voice recorder for your iPod touch/iPhone. It’s perfect for recording memos, lists, ideas, meetings, lectures, etc. The Pro version includes ‘speak & send’ which creates text emails using just your voice – no typing necessary!

Free WiFi Finder – Want to find free WiFi hotspots in a specific area?  There are several free applications which can help you do just that; Free WiFi is one which I have personally tried. Type in a zip code and voila, all WiFi hotspots in that area pop up on your screen – so you know exactly where you can stay connected.

Instapaper – (Free version limited – Full Version $4.99) Don’t have the time to read all the articles or blog entries that interest you when you’re surfing the web? Instapaper is an app that saves and keeps these articles off-line for you to read later; when you have the time. The free version allows you to change the background and adjust the brightness and contrast for reading at night. The pro version offers tilt scrolling, several size and font choices, plus a zoom feature, all to make reading even easier.

I am very impressed with the free version of this application. I’m constantly reading and studying so I’m always bookmarking articles to read, re-read, study, or refer to. As I write this I am traveling by train to New York city and I have forty-three articles saved which I can read at my leisure off-line.

These 5 applications can truly keep you up to speed when you’re out of the office.

This post was written on an Amtrak train using the free version of Documents 2. Although typing on a small screen on a moving train was a bit of a challenge, the app worked like a charm.  I’ll be using this one a lot.

I am fan of IPod. They have No Comparison and above all No Compromise on quality that these gadgets provide.

Its the most well known & reliable name in the market today.

I agree. Apple always seems to put out great products. I don’t know how they remain so consistent.

Thanks for the feedback Annie! The iPod Touch is definitely worth the price. I’m sure you’ll enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine!

For quite a while I have been thinking about which Apple product to buy – an iPod seemed too limiting and an iPhone too expensive (sorry, no real iPhone envy here :).

Your informative posts on the iPod Touch and apps made me realize this is just what I wanted! The iTouch will give me music, pics, video and with the very affordable extensions, writing/voice capabilities as well as internet access. Awesome and for me, worth the slightly higher purchase price! Keep up the good work!
